Refurbished vs used: the difference that matters
“Used” describes prior ownership. “Refurbished” should describe a process: inspection, cleaning, testing and, when needed, repair. The problem is that the word is used differently by different sellers, so the label itself is not enough evidence.
What to compare instead
Look for a written condition grade, battery policy, functional testing, warranty, return window, seller identity and who pays return shipping. Those details tell you more about risk than the word “refurbished”.
When used can be better
A well-documented used unit from a strong professional seller can be a better buy than a vaguely “refurbished” unit with no battery information and weak return terms.
ISS@OUI principle: we score evidence, not labels.
