Best refurbished laptops under €250: the shortlist logic
At this budget, the best value usually comes from ex-business laptops rather than low-end new consumer machines. The objective is not to buy the newest badge. It is to buy a proven chassis with enough RAM, an SSD, a usable battery and a seller who will stand behind the unit.
Minimum specification
| Component | Minimum we would accept |
|---|---|
| CPU | Intel 8th-generation Core i5-class or better for a Windows 11-era business machine. |
| RAM | 16GB preferred. 8GB only when memory is cheaply upgradeable. |
| Storage | 256GB SSD minimum; 512GB is the value sweet spot for many buyers. |
| Display | 1920×1080 preferred. Avoid buying on model name alone because panel options differ. |
| Battery | Seller should disclose health, capacity, runtime or a meaningful battery guarantee. |
Models worth watching
Lenovo ThinkPad T490: a strong portable business option when a 16GB/SSD configuration lands below roughly €250 and the keyboard layout, battery and return policy are acceptable.
Dell Latitude 5400: another practical 14-inch business platform. Prioritize condition, battery and ports over cosmetic perfection.
HP EliteBook 840 G6: often carries a price premium for better-condition examples. It can still be the smarter buy if local returns and warranty reduce risk.
What we reject
We reject listings with ambiguous storage type, no useful condition description, suspiciously weak seller history, non-local keyboard layouts that are hidden in the description, or no realistic route to a return when something arrives wrong.
